Hadith of the week
Imam al-Kadhim (s) said: “The entire Ummah, its righteous and wicked alike, agrees that when the Prophet ﷺ summoned the Christians of Najrān to the Mubāhalah, none were under the cloak except the Prophet, ʿAlī, Fāṭimah, al-Ḥasan, and al-Ḥusayn (s). Then Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said: ‘Whoever disputes with you concerning him after the knowledge that has come to you, say: Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves…’ (3:61) Thus, the meaning of ‘our sons’ was al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn, ‘our women’ was Fāṭimah, and ‘ourselves’ was ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib عليه السلام.”

Grief & Depression Management In Islam
by Tahir Ridha Jaffer
Grief and depression are common experiences in the lives of most individuals in the world. While grief is somewhat easy to spot, with tearing eyes, sulky frowns and sad faces being a sure give-away that someone is unhappy about something, depression is more obscure. People usually keep their depression a secret, perhaps because they think it may be regarded a weakness of mind. However, depression can be an overwhelming burden, especially when it is recurrent. Recurrent depression is a cause of other common problems among the youth such as substance abuse. Of course, the most adverse sequela of depression is suicide, which has been named the second leading cause of death among adolescents. While there are numerous books on the subject of depression and grief, few, if any at all, have been written in English from the Islamic perspective. It is hoped that this work proves beneficial to Muslim readers who are suffering from grief or depression in their lives.
